We are looking for an Academic Tutor specialising in Literacy to support individuals and groups of students to enable access to learning, progress within the subject and achieve academic success. The role includes supporting teachers in whole class lessons when not administering their own 1:1 or group sessions, with some before and after school sessions. This role is suitable for graduates with a degree in the subject area, looking to work in a school in preparation for starting teacher training. Hours are 8:00am to 4:00pm. You will also be asked to provide some sessions within the school holiday period, up to five days, for reception support, interventions and summer school work.
Qualifications
- Relevant qualifications at A Level or undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in English, Maths or Science.
- Excellent numeracy/literacy skills.
- Some knowledge of strategies in working with young people with challenging behaviours.
- Knowledge of some of the social issues facing students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
- Understanding of principles of child development and learning processes and, in particular, barriers to learning.
- Ability to plan effective actions for students at risk of underachieving.
- Understanding of a range of support services/providers.
- Experience of working directly with young people in an education or training environment, supporting the learning of students.
