A high-growth technology business is looking to appoint a Head of Software Development to lead its engineering function, drive delivery across multiple platforms and play a key role in the wider leadership team. This opportunity would suit an experienced engineering leader who can operate strategically while still being close enough to technology to challenge decisions, guide teams and raise standards.
You will take ownership of the software development function end-to-end, leading engineering strategy, delivery performance, architecture direction and team growth. The business has both onshore and offshore capability, so experience managing distributed teams is important.
You will work closely with senior stakeholders across technology and the wider business, helping shape roadmap decisions, improve engineering maturity and scale the platform for future growth.
- Lead the software engineering function across products and internal platforms
- Own software delivery processes, timelines, quality standards and output
- Provide hands-on technical leadership within a Java environment
- Drive best practice across Agile, DevOps, CI/CD and engineering governance
- Manage and develop offshore engineering teams across multiple locations
- Partner with executive leadership on roadmap, investment and technology planning
- Strong background in software engineering with deep Java experience
- Proven leadership experience running engineering teams and delivery functions
- Track record managing offshore or distributed development teams
- Experience owning the full software development lifecycle
- Strong stakeholder management skills with commercial awareness
- Strong understanding of cloud environments, modern architecture and DevOps practices
Previously held a Head of Engineering / VP Engineering / Director level title. Exposure to AI / ML or automation tooling. Knowledge of regulatory and security frameworks.
