I've partnered with a privately owned, technology-driven trading firm to support the hire of a Trading Manager / COO to join the business at a pivotal stage of growth. The firm operates in a high-performance, systematic trading environment, combining proprietary technology, quantitative research, and experienced market practitioners to trade highly liquid global markets.

This is a hands-on leadership role, sitting at the centre of trading, research, and technology, with direct influence over execution quality, operational discipline, and scalability.

The Opportunity

This role will take ownership of the firm's day-to-day trading and operational infrastructure, ensuring strategies are executed efficiently and operational risks are actively managed as the business scales. Working closely with the CEO and senior stakeholders, the successful candidate will act as the operational backbone of the organisation - balancing strategic oversight with hands-on involvement in a fast-paced, performance-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee trading operations across all strategies, ensuring consistent execution standards and effective performance monitoring
  • Work closely with traders and researchers to ensure operational processes actively support strategy performance
  • Maintain oversight of execution workflows, capital allocation, and performance reporting
  • Design and enforce operational risk frameworks, particularly during periods of drawdown or elevated market volatility
  • Act as the central coordination point between trading, research, engineering, and external service providers
  • Ensure operational infrastructure, tooling, data flows, and third-party relationships are robust and scalable
  • Support hiring, team structure, and organisational scaling as the business grows

I'm particularly keen to speak with candidates who have held senior operational or trading-adjacent responsibility within a performance-driven trading environment. Relevant backgrounds could include:

  • Proprietary trading firms or hedge funds
  • Quantitative or systematic trading businesses
  • Execution-focused trading, operations, or risk roles
  • Trading desk management or COO / Head of Operations positions

Candidates may currently hold titles such as Trading Manager, Head of Trading Operations, Operations Manager, Desk Manager, or COO, provided they have had direct accountability for execution, operational performance, and cross-functional coordination.

What They’re Looking For
  • Strong operational judgement with high attention to detail
  • Comfort operating in fast-moving, high-pressure environments
  • Solid understanding of trading execution, operational risk, and performance monitoring
  • High technical literacy, particularly around trading systems, data pipelines, and execution tooling
  • A pragmatic, results-focused mindset with the ability to balance strategy and hands-on delivery
