The SCADA Engineer will report to the Operations leadership team and support both Engineering and Operations functions. The role involves collaborating with Engineering, Estimating, and Procurement teams to review client SCADA specifications and obtain quotations from SCADA suppliers. The successful candidate will review SCADA plans and drawings provided by third-party vendors and engineering consultants, support commissioning and performance activities, and assist project teams in coordinating external SCADA providers throughout project delivery and operational phases.

Main Duties

  • Review and comment on client-provided SCADA technical specifications and Scope of Work (SOW).
  • Obtain proposals from SCADA suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Coordinate with equipment vendors and operations teams to streamline communication related to SCADA requirements.
  • Review and comment on SCADA drawing packages provided by third-party SCADA vendors and engineering consultants.
  • Support project teams in managing third-party SCADA providers and attend project sites as required.
  • Participate in training sessions delivered by SCADA providers and equipment manufacturers.
  • Assist construction and commissioning teams during SCADA commissioning and system performance testing.
  • Support troubleshooting activities for operational sites and projects within warranty periods.
  • Assist with data collection, monitoring, and reporting activities related to plant/system performance.

Qualifications and Person Specification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Communications, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 2–5 years of experience in SCADA Engineering or industrial automation environments.
  • Experience working within industrial, utilities, energy, manufacturing, infrastructure, or process-based industries preferred.
  • Experience using collaboration and project management software platforms.
  • Experience using engineering drawing and diagram development tools.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication systems and electrical infrastructure environments.
  • Knowledge of IEC61850, IEEE, and related communication/interoperability protocols.
  • Understanding of utility and regulatory communication compliance requirements.
  • Experience navigating HMI systems for troubleshooting and data collection activities.
  • Knowledge of SCADA communication protocols and network topologies used in industrial or utility-scale environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel; programming knowledge beneficial.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols such as TCP/IP, Modbus, or equivalent.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritise, multitask, and deliver assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with internal and external stakeholders via email, telephone, messaging platforms, and in person.
  • Ability to interpret manufacturer operating parameters, commissioning guidelines, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to read and understand technical plans, drawings, and specifications.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced environments while maintaining professionalism under pressure.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to document, track, and resolve technical issues through to completion.
