We are looking for a new commissioning editor to join our small but mighty team and we are looking for a passionate commercial crime and thriller reader who is familiar with the digital market, has experience of acquiring and working with authors as well as reacting quickly to global trends and identifying opportunities across all formats. With our startup mentality there will be the opportunity to acquire new projects and innovate and we are always looking for new authors and new ways of doing things. This is a fast‑paced fiction list and you will be part of a team that works flexibly and has a lot of fun along the way!
Core Responsibilities- Acquiring new authors in crime and thriller genres with a focus on the US market, male readership and IP projects
- Maintaining strong communication with authors and agents and developing publishing strategies to launch each title
- Project managing titles from acquisition through to publication, including production work and use of typesetting software as required
- Responsibility for our open submissions inbox, keeping it up to date and using it to discover new authors
- Ensure your titles have best in class metadata
- Previous commissioning experience is required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to express technical and creative vision clearly
- Excellent organisational skills and experience of working to deadlines
- Advanced MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint
- Remains calm under pressure, able to work at pace and to tight deadlines
- Happy to work independently as well as part of a team
- Dynamic and innovative, not afraid to do things differently
- Excellent attention to detail
- A love of commercial fiction but especially crime, thriller and adventure genres
- Hybrid working model (3 days in the office)
