Harper May is partnering with a leading professional services firm that is seeking a Head of Billing to oversee its billing operations and lead improvements across billing accuracy, client invoicing, and revenue processes. As the firm grows its international footprint and client portfolio, this role is critical to maintaining financial integrity, client satisfaction, and operational efficiency.

Role Overview: The Head of Billing will lead a team responsible for end-to-end billing processes, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely invoicing across multiple service lines and regions. This is a strategic and hands-on leadership role, working closely with finance, operations, and client service teams to support revenue delivery and control.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the entire billing cycle, ensuring timely and accurate invoicing in line with contractual terms
  • Manage a team of billing specialists, driving performance and continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align billing processes with client expectations and project delivery
  • Improve billing systems, workflows, and reporting capabilities to support scalability and visibility
  • Monitor WIP, aged debt, and unbilled revenue, ensuring issues are proactively addressed
  • Ensure compliance with relevant financial controls, audit standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Support revenue recognition processes in collaboration with the finance and FP&A teams
  • Partner with the Head of Finance, Legal, and Client Services to refine billing terms and structures

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience leading billing or revenue operations within a professional services environment
  • Strong understanding of billing cycles, revenue processes, and client contractual frameworks
  • Experience with billing systems (e.g. Elite, Aderant, NetSuite, or similar platforms)
  • Excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy and control
  • Leadership experience with the ability to develop, mentor, and motivate a team
  • Confident communicator and stakeholder manager, capable of influencing at all levels
  • Strong organisational skills and a proactive approach to problem solving
