Hybrid – 3 days per week in a UK office (Manchester, London, Sunderland).

We are supporting a well-established, multi-disciplinary building services consultancy with the appointment of an Associate Director / Principal Mechanical Engineer to play a senior leadership role within their Mission Critical (Data Centre) team. This is a hands-on technical and client-facing position, leading the mechanical design of complex data centre projects from early concept through to detailed design and delivery. You will act as Mechanical Design Lead, working closely with internal MEP teams and external stakeholders while helping to shape technical standards, project outcomes and client relationships within a growing data centre capability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design for data centre projects from feasibility and concept through to detailed design and construction support.
  • Oversee and review mechanical calculations, reports and specifications to ensure technical quality and compliance.
  • Manage CFD briefing, coordination and review with specialist supply chain partners.
  • Act as primary mechanical point of contact for clients and wider design teams.
  • Provide technical leadership across HVAC, cooling, water and specialist data centre systems.
  • Support project delivery, resourcing, programme and commercial performance.
  • Contribute to fee proposals, bids and business development within the Mission Critical sector.
  • Undertake technical reviews and mentor senior and mid-level engineers.

About You

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
  • Chartered Engineer (or equivalent).
  • Significant experience delivering data centre mechanical design within a consultancy environment.
  • Strong understanding of redundancy, resiliency, uptime and tiered data centre design.
  • Confident working directly with hyperscale and colocation clients.
  • Advanced Revit and BIM capability.
