Dairy Maintenance and Research Technician (Full time, Fixed Term up to 30 months duration) (LS-1750-2025B)
Harper Adams University is seeking a practically minded, enthusiastic individual to join a UK Government funded project aimed at reducing methane emissions on dairy farms. The role involves working closely with an animal science researcher to manage mechanical or technical issues on campus and offsite at partnering farms. The ideal candidate will have a background in agricultural work, engineering, mechanics, or repair work.
Responsibilities include:
- Maintaining and repairing equipment related to dairy cows, including methane measurement devices, mixer wagons, and load-all systems.
- Supporting academic staff and researchers in transporting, setting up, and operating methane monitoring equipment on farms, as well as assisting with data and sample collection.
- Assisting with daily husbandry of dairy research animals, including feeding and occasional weekend work.
- Supporting the delivery of technology transfer events.
Requirements include:
- Experience with farm equipment maintenance and dairy cattle management.
- A full, clean driving license.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- High attention to detail and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Previous experience with welding or low-level fabrication is desirable but not essential. Off-campus work involves transporting and setting up methane analyzers within a 50-mile radius of the campus. The role may include occasional weekend work. Degree holders and non-degree applicants are encouraged to apply.
