Responsible for defining and delivering the Society’s mortgage product strategy, managing the full lifecycle of residential and Buy to Let products to ensure they meet member needs, remain competitive, and comply with regulatory requirements. The role involves collaborating across the business to develop and enhance mortgage propositions aligned with the Society’s objectives and Consumer Duty principles, while providing expert insight into market trends, customer needs, and regulatory changes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define mortgage product strategy, manage the product lifecycle and work with cross‑functional teams to launch and improve mortgage products.
- Ensure new product development aligns with the Society’s overall business objectives, risk appetite, and mutual ethos.
- Oversee the product from conception to launch and beyond, gathering customer feedback and analysing trends.
- Manage the residential and Buy to Let mortgage products and propositions end‑to‑end, ensuring they meet member needs, remain competitive, and deliver commercial targets while adhering to regulatory requirements.
- Ensure all mortgage propositions align with the principles of the FCA’s Consumer Duty, delivering good outcomes for members.
- Work proactively with the Commercial Director to prepare governance papers, approval papers and MI packs.
- Stay informed about mortgage market conditions, competitor offerings and customer needs to identify opportunities for new mortgage products.
- Contribute to regulatory change projects, ensuring the mortgage portfolio remains compliant.
- Act as the subject‑matter expert for mortgages and build key relationships across the business, including Operations & Underwriting, Compliance, Finance, Credit Risk, IT, Marketing, Intermediaries and the Executive team.
- Work full‑time on a hybrid basis with the expectation of attending the Harpenden office twice weekly.
Knowledge, Skills and Qualification Requirements:
- Experience in the Financial Services sector is essential.
- Proven experience in a Product Management or Proposition Management role within the UK mortgage industry is essential.
- Strong commercial acumen and analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data, market trends and financial performance metrics.
- Experience within a Building Society or Mutual organisation is highly desirable.
- Excellent understanding of the end‑to‑end mortgage lifecycle and current regulatory landscape (e.g., Consumer Duty, MCOB).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Comprehensive understanding of the Microsoft suite of IT software (Excel, PowerPoint, etc).
