The predicted salary is between 36000 - 60000 ÂŁ per year.

To risk assess and underwrite mortgage applications in accordance with the Society’s Lending Policy and risk appetite and to provide the highest level of customer service. Your primary focus is to act in the best interests of our members so that our lending delivers great customer outcomes while achieving the goals in the Society’s Strategic Plan.

Key Responsibilities

  • All aspects of credit risk assessment and manual underwriting of mortgage lending applications.
  • Act in the best interests of applicants and members.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all decisions adhere to the Society’s Lending Policy.
  • Act in accordance with any mortgage underwriting mandate you are given.
  • Responsible for updating procedures and their continued maintenance.
  • Acts as a mentor and trainer for less experienced Underwriters.
  • Contribute to process improvement and other underwriting projects.

Knowledge, skill and qualification requirements

  • Articulate and persuasive with demonstrable relationship management.
  • Capable of thinking “outside of the box” and making responsible lending decisions.
  • Very thorough, excellent attention to detail, analytical thinking.
  • Underwriting experience and proven competency including complex prime mortgages.
  • Good level of understanding of mortgage lending regulation and mortgage market.
  • CeMAP Diploma qualified or a desire to study for it.
  • Excellent levels of numeracy and literacy.
  • Intermediate level experience in Word, Outlook, Excel.
  • System and organisational knowledge.
  • Assertiveness and challenge.
  • Compliance /regulation.
  • Problem solving.
  • Adaptability and flexibility, Initiative, and pro-activeness.
  • Knowledge and understanding of FCA’s PSD and MCOB regulations and its implications to our business.
