This is a rare opportunity to join a small, research-led team working on some of the most challenging problems in human-centred AI. The role offers genuine ownership, the chance to shape research direction, and the ability to see ideas move quickly from experimentation into real-world applications.

The Company

They are a human-centric research and development consultancy focused on modelling how people perceive, attend to, and interact with complex visual and spatial environments. Operating with a lean, startup-style culture, the team works closely with industry partners while actively expanding into new application areas such as aerospace, immersive technologies, and assistive systems.

The Role

You will work at the intersection of machine learning, computer vision, and cognitive science to build models that predict and interpret human attention and behaviour in visual and spatial contexts.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and implementing machine learning models for human attention, perception, and interaction.
  • Running independent experiments, from hypothesis and data design through to evaluation and analysis.
  • Working with visual, temporal, and spatial data including images, video, 3D scenes, and gaze signals.
  • Translating research ideas into practical prototypes with support from a small engineering-focused team.
  • Contributing ideas proactively in an open, research-driven environment.

Your Skills and Experience

  • PhD, near-complete PhD, in machine learning, computer vision, AI, cognitive science, neuroscience, HCI, robotics, or a related field.
  • Evidence of strong research output such as publications at leading computer vision or AI venues, patents, or substantial open-source contributions.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Python and modern deep learning frameworks, ideally PyTorch.
  • Ability to design, run, and evaluate machine learning experiments independently.
  • A genuine interest in human behaviour, attention, perception, or cognitive modelling.
  • Clear communication skills and confidence working in a small, collaborative team.

What They Offer

  • Salary between £60,000 and £75,000 depending on experience.
  • Equity options ranging from 0.1 percent to 3.0 percent based on seniority and scope.
  • Fully remote.
  • High-impact research problems, real-world applications, and meaningful technical ownership.
  • A supportive, creative culture that values curiosity, initiative, and thoughtful experimentation.
