Looking for a graduate role where progression is based on performance, earning potential is uncapped, and you develop commercial skills early in your career? This opportunity is within recruitment, a fast-paced, target-driven industry that combines sales, relationship building, negotiation, and market expertise.

At Harnham, we hire graduates into our Academy programme and train them to become successful Recruitment Consultants within specialist Data & AI markets. Recruitment is often compared to sales because progression and earnings are linked to performance, but unlike many traditional sales roles, success comes from building relationships, understanding markets, influencing decisions, and creating long-term partnerships.

What does the role actually involve?

  • You’ll begin your career in a candidate-focused recruitment role, learning the foundations of recruitment before progressing into client-facing responsibilities.
  • During your early months, you’ll learn how to:
    • Build relationships with candidates and understand motivations
    • Source talent within specialist markets
    • Conduct screening conversations and interviews
    • Manage recruitment processes from application through to offer
    • Understand how hiring decisions are made
    • Develop confidence communicating with professionals at different levels
  • As you progress through the Academy, you may move into Business Development training, learning how to win clients, build partnerships, and manage your own recruitment desk.
  • Over time, this develops into a full 360 Recruitment Consultant role involving both candidates and clients.

Why recruitment appeals to commercially minded graduates

  • Clear progression pathways
  • Performance-based earnings through commission
  • Exposure to business development and sales skills
  • Responsibility early in your career
  • A competitive environment with measurable success
  • Opportunities to build expertise within specialist industries

For ambitious people, progression can happen quickly.

Your training at Harnham

You’ll join the Harnham Academy, our structured training programme designed specifically for people entering recruitment for the first time.

You’ll receive:

  • Classroom-based training from Learning & Development specialists
  • Hands-on experience within live recruitment teams
  • Regular reviews and coaching
  • Defined progression milestones
  • Exposure to Business Development training as you develop

The goal is to build long-term careers, not expect people to learn through trial and error.

Who we look for

We hire graduates from a wide range of backgrounds and degrees. People who tend to succeed are often:

  • Competitive and motivated by progression
  • Curious and eager to learn
  • Strong communicators
  • Comfortable working towards targets
  • Resilient and proactive
  • Interested in commercial careers

Previous experience in hospitality, sport, customer service, retail, or sales can be helpful, but is not essential.
