As a Data Governance Analyst, you’ll drive strategic improvements in data literacy, governance frameworks, and compliance—ensuring the firm’s data is a trusted asset for decision‑making.
THE ROLE
As a Data Governance Analyst, you will understand what data stewards are using, manage and update the business’s data catalogue, spot missing data and improve how processes can be worked upon, and support business strategy on how to improve data quality. This is a role for someone who wants to help a global law firm get its data under control—making it clearer, cleaner, and more useful for everyone who relies on it. You will be involved in overseeing Data360 and Power BI to develop governance frameworks, improve data quality, and create strategic reports.
Responsibilities
- Junior/Mid-level Data Governance Analyst
- Support the Senior Data Governance lead and help raise data literacy across the business.
- Act as a first point of contact for inbound data governance requests.
- Support ongoing data stewardship conversations, contributing meaningfully rather than just taking notes.
- Work closely with business stakeholders to:
- Understand their data questions and issues.
- Help them use governance processes and tools correctly.
- Assist with day‑to‑day governance activities while building broader exposure to the framework and tooling.
- Senior Data Governance Analyst
- Take a lead role in data governance activities and provide guidance and support to the mid‑level analyst.
- Implement and oversee the cross‑functional Data Governance Framework.
- Work closely with Data Stewards to deeply understand data domains, ownership, and business needs.
- Own and manage the data governance issues log, including prioritising issues, driving resolution, and ensuring outcomes are documented.
- Lead metadata ingestion and curation within the data management tool.
- Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities across data governance processes.
- Ensure data literacy standards are maintained and improved across teams.
- Work cross‑functionally to:
- Identify where data is used.
- Understand who is using it and for what purpose.
- Ensure data usage and processes are correctly logged and governed.
Skills & Experience
- Experience in data governance, with a background in legal, professional services, consulting, or regulated industries.
- Proven ability to manage stakeholders, develop governance strategies, and mentor team members.
- Expertise in Data360 (or similar tools; Alation, Collibra, Informatica, etc.) and Power BI, with a focus on strategic implementation.
- Strong communication skills and a track record of improving data literacy and compliance.
