This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced General Practitioner (GP) to join the team at Park Royal Medical Practice in a leadership capacity on a job share basis.
Main duties of the job
In this role, you will be responsible for upholding the highest standards of clinical care and patient safety, while providing guidance and support to the wider practice team. You will lead on quality improvement initiatives, facilitate multidisciplinary and clinical meetings and play a key role in the development and mentorship of staff. Alongside your leadership duties, you will maintain a strong clinical presence within the practice.
About us
Park Royal Medical Practice is an APMS general practice run by Harness Care Ltd. It currently cares for 9,000 patients living predominantly in Brent and Ealing Boroughs. The practice is part of Harness South Primary Care Network (PCN) and Harness Care Ltd provides support to both Harness South and Harness North PCNs. The combined populations of the two PCNs is 150,000 patients providing a range of opportunities for career progression and working in innovative new ways of delivering care. The practice is a key hub site for the local area and the development of neighbourhood working and Integrated Neighbourhood Teams.
Job responsibilities
- Provide high quality clinical care to patients via face to face, online and telephone consultations.
- Along with the leadership sessions, undertake 2 to 3 clinical sessions per week with at least one session being patient-facing.
- Act as a clinical lead for the practice team, including salaried GPs, locum GPs, nurses, healthcare assistants and ARRS roles (e.g. clinical pharmacists, dietician).
- Provide regular support and feedback to clinical staff; oversee and facilitate their professional development.
- Attend regular management meetings with the Practice Manager and PCN Managing Director and chair weekly clinical meetings.
- Liaise effectively with ARRS staff and other healthcare professionals.
- Work in partnership with the Harness Care Ltd Board and Harness South PCN Clinical Directors to optimise performance and patient satisfaction.
- Attendance at South PCN meetings.
- Ensure the practice meets clinical governance and safety standards in collaboration with the Registered Manager.
Provision of Clinical Care
- Undertakes all duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care, including a full range of medical services as defined in the core APMS/PMS/GMS contract and additional and enhanced services where appropriate in line with the GMC Good Medical Practice Standards.
- Patient facing work aligned to improving quality of care with agreed autonomy regarding details of sessions.
- Contributing to continuity of care and risk management of patients.
- Oversee and participate in chronic disease management, which the post holder may lead, for defined conditions and/or patients.
- Work as part of the team to ensure all targets and performance indicators are met.
- Participate in specified clinical meetings.
- Participate in and lead clinical audit and quality improvement activities.
Management and Leadership
This is a senior management and quality improvement role within the practice, working closely with the Harness Care Ltd and Harness South PCN leadership. The post holder will offer essential clinical leadership and perspective, focusing on achieving contractual and population health targets, including QOF, IIF, and enhanced services.
Quality Assurance and Improvement
Quality assurance is a component of quality management focused on providing confidence that quality requirements are met. The post holder will proactively support the evidence-based achievement of regulatory and best practice frameworks, ensuring that all statutory notifications are made comprehensively and promptly. The post holder will be responsible for reviewing clinical work conducted within the practice and through clinical supervision addressing performance deficiencies and fostering professional development. They will also ensure that annual staff appraisals are conducted and documented in a timely manner and will actively support the ongoing professional development of all team members.
In collaboration with others, the post holder will:
- Identify and focus on priorities for improvement.
- Enable rapid and systematic implementation of evidence-based interventions.
- Use and enable opportunities for clinical learning in practice teams.
Sessional Allocation
The exact sessional breakdown will be discussed upon appointment and reviewed regularly. The post holder will have a high level of autonomy in designing their work plan but will be expected to:
- Deliver a minimum of one patient-facing session per week.
- Dedicate time to clinical leadership, quality assurance and improvement activities.
- Attend management meetings and chair weekly clinical meetings.
- Support the development of internal leadership within the salaried GP team.
Person Specification
Experience
- At least 3 years post-CCT experience as a GP; experience in clinical leadership or mentoring roles.
- Experience working within a Primary Care Network (PCN) or integrated care system; previous involvement in quality improvement or clinical audit.
Qualifications
- Full GMC registration with a license to practice.
- Postgraduate qualifications in leadership, management, or education.
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong communication, leadership and interpersonal skills; sound clinical knowledge and evidence-based decision-making.
- Knowledge of QOF, IIF, enhanced services and NHS contractual requirements.
- Proficient in EMIS or similar clinical systems; ability to use digital tools for communication and documentation.
- Experience with data analysis or dashboard tools for performance monitoring.
Clinical Competence
- Ability to provide high-quality, patient-centred care in line with GMC standards.
- Experience in managing long-term conditions and complex care coordination.
Quality Assurance & Improvement
- Proven track record in clinical audit or QI initiatives; commitment to continuous improvement.
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (CQC standards) and statutory notifications.
- Ability to chair meetings, lead multidisciplinary teams, provide supervision and conduct appraisals.
- Formal leadership training or certification.
