We are building a team of expert fire engineers and FRAEW specialists who will support clients with complex buildings, HRBs, high‑rise structures and challenging regulatory contexts. About the Role
The Principal Fire Engineer (FRAEW) will act as the subject‑matter expert for PAS9980 and external wall assessments within our consultancy division. You will lead complex FRAEW projects, support national clients, and help develop the internal capability of Harmony’s growing external wall team. Your work will directly influence how Harmony Fire delivers external wall services across HRBs and tall buildings, and you’ll play a critical role in mentoring engineers, establishing best practice, and ensuring technical consistency across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead FRAEW assessments following the PAS9980 methodology
- Provide expert insight on external wall systems for complex/high‑rise buildings
- Support Scotland’s Single Building Assessment (SBA) process where applicable
- Mentor and develop junior FRAEW practitioners
- Produce high‑quality FRAEW reports and recommendations
- Support client communication and act as a senior technical representative
- Use digital inspection tools including Bluebeam, RISKBASE and RISKFLAG
- Contribute to the development of Harmony’s national external wall service model
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- 10+ years’ experience in fire engineering or specialised FRAEW work
- Degree in Fire Engineering or Level 6 fire‑related qualification
- Professional membership at MiFireE or equivalent
- Demonstrable experience delivering FRAEW for HRBs / 18m+ buildings
- RICS Level 6 External Wall qualification preferred
- Experience working within PAS9980 methodology
- Experience leading or mentoring teams
- Strong knowledge of Fire Safety Order 2005 & Building Safety Act 2022
- Engineering Council membership (EngTech/IEng/CEng) or working towards
- Confident communicator, highly organised and detail-focused
