We are expanding a new national Fire Consultancy business unit, designed to establish Harmony as one of the UK's leading life-safety consultancy practices. The Edinburgh consultancy hub plays a major role in our national strategy, supporting clients across Scotland and the wider UK. We deliver fire engineering strategies, external wall advice, FRAEW support, RIBA-stage input, and complex risk management across a variety of building types. About the Role
As Fire Engineer, you will support the delivery of fire engineering projects across Scotland and the UK, working closely with senior engineers to produce high-quality technical outputs. You'll contribute to fire strategies, risk assessments, RIBA‐stage advisory, FRAEW support and external wall‐related tasks, gaining exposure to complex consultancy work and varied building portfolios. This role is ideal for someone who wants to deepen their technical expertise, work in a high-growth consultancy environment, and progress into senior engineering or specialist pathways. You will also support the improvement of processes, standards and systems within the new consultancy division.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development of fire engineering strategies and fire risk management plans
- Apply understanding of the Fire Safety (Scotland) Act 2005 and Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006
- Assist in the Single Building Assessment (SBA) process
- Contribute to RIBA-stage design work and wider consultancy outputs
- Support FRAEW workstreams following PAS9980 methodology
- Capture accurate site evidence using digital tools such as Bluebeam, RISKBASE and RISKFLAG
- Produce structured, high-quality technical documentation and reports
- Support client communication and provide technical input when required
- Operate within a collaborative, growing consultancy team contributing to best practice
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years' experience within fire consultancy
- Degree in Fire Engineering or Level 4 fire-related qualification
- Graduate membership (GiFireE or equivalent)
- Knowledge of Scottish and UK fire safety legislation
- Experience using digital inspection and reporting tools
- Working towards Engineering Council registration
- Strong communication, organisation and technical reporting skills
- Ability to work independently within a small technical unit
