Department: Building Fabric - Pre-construction

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Birmingham

Reporting To: Alex Goodall

Description

Since 2016, Harmony Fire has grown to become one of the UK’s leading life safety contractors, delivering passive fire protection, building fabric and M&E works across residential, social housing, commercial and public sector markets. We hold a Two Star Outstanding Company to Work For accreditation from Best Companies and we are growing fast — and we’re looking for A-players to help us get there. Our mission is simple: every resident should be able to sleep safely at night, knowing their home is 100% compliant and protected. That is what drives everything we do.

We now have an opportunity for Pre‑Construction Managers (multiple positions) to join our growing West Midlands pod, owning passive fire protection projects end‑to‑end from initial scope development through to handover into delivery. Based out of our Dudley office, you will work closely with our Pre‑Construction Director and wider pod as we build out the West Midlands operation. This is more than a delivery role. It is about bringing the right energy, accountability and resilience to our mission of saving lives through fire and height safety.

  • Own each allocated project from scope development through to PCI pack completion and handover into delivery.
  • Develop scopes of work for passive fire protection projects that are accurate, compliant, commercially optimised and fit for the delivery team to execute without ambiguity.
  • Prepare pricing, scope build‑ups and commercial positions for all allocated projects, approving within delegated authority and escalating above threshold to the Pre‑Construction Director with a clear recommendation.
  • Act as the day‑to‑day client contact on all allocated projects, running Pre‑Construction Calls with a structured agenda and capturing all decisions and scope agreements in writing.
  • Line manage pod‑aligned estimators, setting clear objectives and holding them accountable to quality and timeline.
  • Coordinate surveyors, workflow and admin support across your projects within the pod model.
  • Maintain forecast accuracy and report weekly on live projects in line with Harmony’s forecasting requirements.
  • Ensure all project records and commercial activity are kept current and accurate in Salesforce.
  • Contribute positively to the wider West Midlands pod and pre‑construction function, sharing knowledge and supporting continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • An A‑player mindset — high standards, extreme ownership and the drive to do things properly, the first time.
  • Proven experience in a pre‑construction, estimating or project management role within passive fire protection, fire stopping, fire doors or a closely related specialist construction discipline.
  • Commercially sharp, with a clear understanding of margin, scope creep and what a good deal looks like.
  • Strong client management skills, with the ability to run structured meetings and build trust through follow‑through and accuracy.
  • Organised and methodical, capable of managing multiple projects in parallel without dropping threads.
  • Resourceful — knows what they know, recognises what they don’t, and moves fast to get the right answer from the right source.
  • Clear and confident communicator, written and verbal, with a strong instinct to document everything.
  • Experience line managing or directing junior team members is an advantage.
  • Based within commutable distance of our Dudley office, with the flexibility to travel across the West Midlands region as needed.

Job Benefits

This is a chance to help build out one of Harmony’s newest regional pods from the ground up — owning your own passive fire protection projects end‑to‑end, working directly with the Pre‑Construction Director and shaping how the West Midlands operation runs as we grow. At Harmony, we ask a lot — and we give a lot back. The hours are real, the standards are high and the work is demanding, but for those who show up, deliver and go the extra mile, the rewards follow. A‑players here enjoy a competitive salary, a Personal Development Plan with ongoing training and leadership mentoring, unlimited holiday, a bonus scheme paying up to 50% of annual salary, private medical insurance, enhanced maternity and paternity, lunch, snacks and refreshments on us every day (fresh fruit and Takeaway Fridays included), a team social budget, cycle to work, an auto‑enrolment pension, two major company events a year and our Reward and Recognition scheme — including European mini‑breaks for those who go above and beyond. It is a collaborative, high‑energy environment focused on doing things the right way — technically, commercially and practically — and none of it is a perk for showing up; it’s what we share with the people pulling the business forward.

Harmony is an equal opportunity employer. We consider all applicants for employment regardless of age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, family or parental status, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion or belief. We want everyone who works with us to feel valued and to make a difference.
