Technical & Compliance Director in Chesterfield

We are looking for a Technical & Compliance Manager to own the technical standards, product compliance, and regulatory framework that underpin everything SolidCor makes. This is a critical role — ensuring our fire doorsets meet the standards they claim, our certification is robust, and our processes give clients and regulators complete confidence in every product that leaves our factory. This is more than a compliance role. It is about being the technical backbone of a fast-growing business — setting the standard, protecting it, and helping the whole team understand why it matters.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and maintain SolidCor’s product compliance framework — ensuring all fire doorsets are manufactured, tested and certified in line with relevant British Standards, CE/UKCA marking requirements, and third-party certification schemes.
• Manage and develop SolidCor’s relationship with third-party testing and certification bodies (e.g. BM TRADA, IFC, Warrington).
• Maintain the document control and technical library — ensuring all test evidence, declarations of performance, installation instructions, and product data sheets are current, accurate, and accessible.
• Lead internal and external technical audits, managing non-conformances through to closure and driving root cause analysis where required.
• Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients, contractors, and specifiers — answering product queries, reviewing specifications, and providing technical support at tender and post-contract stage.
• Oversee the SolidCor installer and contractor approval scheme — managing approvals, training requirements, and ongoing compliance monitoring.
• Monitor changes in fire door legislation, standards, and guidance (including the Building Safety Act, PAS 24, BS 8214, and related documents) and ensure the business adapts accordingly.
• Support the product development team with technical input on new configurations, hardware, and materials — ensuring compliance is considered from the outset.
• Produce technical bulletins, guidance documents, and training materials for internal teams, installers, and clients.
• Report on compliance KPIs and certification status to senior leadership.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

• An A-player mindset — high standards, extreme ownership and the drive to do things properly, the first time.
• Proven experience in a technical, compliance, or quality management role within fire doors, passive fire protection, or a closely related building products discipline.
• Strong working knowledge of relevant standards including BS 8214, PAS 24, Approved Document B, and the Building Safety Act.
• Experience managing third-party product certification and testing programmes.
• Excellent technical writing skills — able to produce clear, accurate documentation for a range of audiences.
• Detail-oriented and rigorous — comfortable owning a compliance framework and holding the business to it.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills — able to engage credibly with clients, specifiers, regulators, and internal teams.
• Proficient in Microsoft 365.

Nice to Have

• Membership of a relevant professional body (IFSM, CABE, CIOB or equivalent).
• Experience with UKCA/CE marking and declarations of performance.
• Background in manufacturing quality or production environments.
• Auditor qualification (ISO 9001 internal auditor or equivalent).
