Full-time Gardener / Handyperson required in Hungerford, Berkshire. The role can be live-in or live-out with a salary of £30,000 gross per annum, Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm.
Responsibilities
- Gardening & Grounds Maintenance
- Mow lawns, strim edges, and maintain neat, tidy grounds year-round.
- Weed and tend to flower beds, borders, and planters.
- Prune trees, shrubs, and hedges seasonally.
- Plant and care for flowers, vegetables, and bulbs.
- Keep driveways, paths, and terraces clean and free from debris.
- Maintain garden tools and machinery in good working order.
- Manage composting and general garden waste.
- Carry out small household repairs and maintenance (e.g. painting, tightening fittings, minor carpentry).
- Change light bulbs, fix minor electrical or plumbing issues (non-specialist).
- Ensure general upkeep of property interiors and exteriors.
- Liaise with contractors or specialists when needed.
- Maintain garden buildings, fences, gates, and outdoor furniture.
- Drive family members locally when needed (e.g. station runs, airport, errands).
- Collect supplies, feed, or household items from nearby shops.
- Assist with vehicle care – washing, fuelling, basic maintenance.
- Ensure estate vehicles are kept clean and road-ready.
- Occasional dog sitting and dog walking when family is away.
- House sitting during family absences – keeping the home secure and cared for.
- Assisting with general estate management as required (e.g. deliveries, bins, errands).
Requirements
- Proven experience in gardening and general maintenance work.
- Practical skills with tools, machinery, and basic home repairs.
- Trustworthy, reliable, and able to work independently.
- Good attention to detail and pride in maintaining a beautiful, well-kept home and garden.
- Comfortable around animals (dogs and horses on the property).
- Flexible and willing to assist with varied household tasks.
- Full, clean driving licence.
Preferred
- Experience working on a private estate or large country property.
- Basic knowledge of irrigation systems, lawn care, and horticulture.
- Able to manage garden schedules (planting, pruning, mowing calendar).
- Friendly, discreet, and adaptable personality.
Accommodation (if live-in)
- Private self-contained annex (attached to main house) on the estate with kitchen, bathroom, and sitting area.
- Vehicle provided for work use.
