Harmonic is delighted to be partnering with a VC-backed deep-tech and infrastructure scale-up that runs a high-volume, asset-backed operating network for some of the UK's best-known e-commerce brands. Backed by leading venture investors, the business has grown revenue more than sevenfold in the last year and is targeting significant further growth next year, with a clear path to profitability. Finance now needs to match the pace and scale of the operation.
The Interim Group Financial Controller will take ownership of financial control across the group, leading the existing Financial Controller and bringing the rigour that a business of this scale and pace needs. The immediate priorities are clear: tighten the month-end close and the controls behind it, give the C-suite numbers they can rely on, and make sure the business's working capital facilities are supported by clean, timely and accurate data. This is a hands-on controllership role rather than an FP&A or all-round FD brief; it suits a senior controller who has run financial control in a high-volume transactional environment and is ready to roll their sleeves up from day one.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the group month-end close, driving a faster, more reliable process with clear ownership and review at every step.
- Deliver accurate, timely management reporting to the C-suite, with full balance sheet integrity behind every number.
- Oversee finance's support of the invoice financing and working capital facilities, including receivables data, borrowing base and lender reporting, reconciliations and compliance.
- Review and strengthen the financial control framework across order-to-cash, procure-to-pay and the balance sheet, closing gaps quickly and practically.
- Bring discipline to the accounting for a growing physical asset base, including capitalisation policy and the fixed asset register.
- Lead, coach and raise the standard of the financial control team.
- Keep the group audit-ready and support statutory reporting, VAT and the external audit.
- Work closely with the founders and operational leaders to embed processes that scale with transaction volumes.
Essential Experience
- Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA).
- Senior financial control experience at Group Financial Controller or Head of Financial Control level in a scaling, multi-entity business.
- Hands-on experience overseeing the finance support of invoice financing, invoice discounting or other working capital facilities, such as borrowing base reporting and lender audits.
- A high-volume transactional background, for example e-commerce, marketplaces, fintech, logistics or delivery.
- A track record of improving month-end, controls and reporting accuracy quickly, ideally as an interim.
- Available immediately or at short notice, and set up to work outside IR35.
Desirable Experience
- Big 4 or top-tier audit training.
- Experience in VC-backed, operationally heavy businesses with physical assets and large transaction volumes.
- Experience accounting for physical assets and capex at scale.
Day Rate: £600-750 per day (outside IR35)
Location: London, 4 days a week on-site (Mondays and Fridays required)
Duration: 6-month interim contract
Start Date: ASAP
