Interim Financial Accountant (Audit) Technology Scale-Up Fully Remote
The Client
Harmonic is delighted to be partnering with a remote-first technology business going through its first external audit as a group. The company has grown quickly, builds its own technology, and is now investing in an internal finance function for its next phase. This is a focused, high-impact piece of work: get the group's first year-end audit over the line cleanly.
The Role
Reporting into the Finance Director, the Interim Financial Accountant will take ownership of the group audit for the year ended August 2025 and drive it to close. This is the first time the business has been audited, so a number of areas are being queried for the first time: the capitalisation of development costs, directors' loan accounts, and a range of balance sheet reconciliations. You will be the in-house technical lead who speaks the auditors' language: working out what they actually need, translating it into clear actions, and closing out the open queries. This is a hands-on, technical role, fully remote, offered initially as a two-month contract with real scope to extend into the following year's audit.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the relationship with the external auditors, translating their requests into clear actions and closing out open queries.
- Prepare and justify the capitalisation of development costs, with supporting workings that will stand up to audit scrutiny.
- Resolve directors' loan account and other balance sheet queries, producing clean reconciliations and supporting schedules.
- Work through the group balance sheet line by line, evidencing and correcting balances where needed.
- Pull together audit-ready workpapers and supporting documentation across the group.
- Act as the dedicated technical point of contact for the interim FD and finance assistant, taking the audit off their day-to-day plate.
- Where time allows, lay the groundwork for a smoother audit of the year ended August 2026.
Essential Experience
- Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA).
- Trained in audit within an accountancy firm, then moved in-house as a financial or technical accountant: has seen the audit from both sides.
- Has faced external auditors from the client side and understands what they are looking for.
- Strong technical grounding across development cost capitalisation, directors' loan accounts and complex balance sheet reconciliations.
- Comfortable in a group audit and, ideally, a first-time audit situation.
- Available to start immediately and happy working fully remotely.
Desirable Experience
- Experience within technology, software or high-growth businesses.
- Exposure to first-year audits or audit remediation.
- Experience helping to build or professionalise a finance function.
Day Rate: £400-£450 per day
Location: Fully remote (UK), with the occasional visit to meet the team
Contract Length: Two-month interim contract initially, with scope to extend.
Start Date: ASAP
