Harmonic is delighted to be partnering with one of Europe's leading venture capital funds, a backer of some of the most recognisable technology companies of the last decade. Investing across the late-stage startup and scale-up market, they have built an exceptional reputation and a portfolio to match. This is a rare opportunity to sit inside the finance function of a world-class investor during a busy and high-profile period, on an initial 6-month basis covering a period of parental leave.
Reporting directly to the CFO, this is a genuine financial controller role running the day-to-day finance operations of the management company; this is not a fund accounting position. You will own the control environment and reporting for the group entities, working closely with investors, fund finance, compliance and the wider team. The CFO is deliberately hands-off on day-to-day matters, so this suits someone who can operate independently from day one, hold the control environment steady and get stuck into the detail. The role is based in their Central London office, ideally four days per week.
Duties
- Ensure the internal controls and processes remain fit for purpose, driving improvement where required.
- Own the monthly finance board pack, including management accounts, commentary and analysis.
- Oversee the financial records and statutory accounts for the group entities, including carried interest and co-investment vehicles.
- Manage cash flow forecasting, FX and treasury, improving the wider control environment.
- Own the budget, track actuals against budget and support the quarterly and annual accounts.
- Act as the lead liaison for the annual audit across the group's audited entities.
- Manage the group VAT returns and prepare quarterly FCA returns and compliance reports.
- Run monthly payroll across the UK, Germany and France, and support the CFO on finance transformation and ad hoc strategic projects.
Essential Skills
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA), ACA preferred.
- Strong financial control background, including statutory accounts, group reporting and leading audits.
- Experience within venture capital, private equity, investment management or a high-growth financial services or technology scale-up.
- Comfortable with regulatory reporting, including FCA returns, alongside VAT.
- Multi-entity and multi-currency experience across international entities.
- Available to start in early October and to work four days per week in the office.
Bonus Skills
- Previous interim or contract experience, able to hit the ground running.
- Exposure to carried interest and co-investment vehicles.
- Experience running or overseeing payroll across UK and European entities.
Rate: Circa £100,000+ (6-month fixed-term contract) or equivalent day rate, dependent on experience. Start Date: Early October. Contract Length: 6 months. Location: Central London, four days per week in office.
