The Role
This is a senior, commercially focused project accounting role offering exposure to world-class designers and studio leaders. You will take ownership of the financial performance of major projects (around 100 at any given time) - from initial due diligence through to billing, forecasting, and collections, while partnering closely with senior stakeholders across the business. You’ll act as a trusted financial advisor, helping shape decision-making, improving project performance, and ensuring best-in-class financial discipline across the project lifecycle. Responsibilities
- Partner with Principals, Studio Leaders, and Design Managers to drive strong project financial performance
- Oversee billing accuracy and financial reporting across projects, studios, and the wider office
- Provide meaningful commercial insight through forecasting, variance analysis, and performance tracking
- Support complex international projects and collaborate with global finance teams
- Train and support Design Managers on project finance processes and best practices
- Manage key client accounts and ensure projects remain financially healthy throughout the lifecycle
- Review project budgets, staffing plans, and fee structures to maximise profitability
- Analyse actual vs. budget performance and present insights to senior leadership
- Coordinate consultant invoicing and payments efficiently
- Review labour and expenses for accuracy and commercial alignment
- Monitor Accounts Receivable and support collection efforts
- Maintain well-structured and compliant project contract documentation
What our client needs to see (required):
- 10+ years of Project Accounting experience within a professional services environment (architecture, design, engineering, or similar)
- Strong commercial understanding of project financials, billing, and lifecycle management
- Advanced Excel skills
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Confident communicator able to partner with senior stakeholders
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Experience supporting complex, global, or multi-currency projects
- Familiarity with Deltek Vision / Vantagepoint or similar project finance systems
- Track record of improving financial processes, reporting, or systems
- Experience training or mentoring project teams on finance best practices
