Harmonic are delighted to be partnering with a serial entrepreneur in their search for an Interim Financial Controller to sit across their business and wider interests. Alongside a portfolio of investments and property, the founder is building a number of new business ventures, the largest of which is a fast-growing tech business. These interests have grown over time and are closely tied together, and the founder now wants to put proper structure around them.
The Role
This is a full-time interim role, which is open to part-time fractional candidates. The brief is to bring the whole picture together: oversight of the operating businesses, the related entities, the property portfolio and the investments, and how capital moves between them. The role also involves being 'hands-on' in the new business venture, managing month-end, payroll, accounts and general bookkeeping. The founder is also thinking about a permanent founder's or family office role, and this person will help inform what that looks like.
Key Responsibilities
- Build a single view of the founder's businesses, entities, property and investments
- Ownership of the finance function within the main operating business
- Get on top of the group and entity structure, and simplify it where it makes sense
- Advise the founder on funding new ventures and allocating capital across the portfolio
- Manage the finance and admin around the property portfolio
- Help design the longer-term finance structure, including the full-time hire into the operating business
- Stay hands-on with the detail, including the admin that comes with a multi-asset structure
What We Need to See (Essential)
- Senior finance experience in a family office, founder's office, or PE or VC fund finance
- Experience across multiple entities and asset types, including complex ownership structures
- Exposure to investing into businesses, and getting in and out of them
- Hands-on and comfortable as a player-coach with no large team underneath
What We'd Like to See (Bonus)
- Operating finance experience in a start-up or scale-up
- Experience working directly with a founder or principal
Location: London, mix of office and remote to be agreed
Contract: Full-time, 6 months (open to part-time fractional candidates)
Start Date: ASAP
