We are seeking a qualified and accredited Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner to join our integrated primary care mental health team at HMP Millsike. As a PWP, you will play a key role in delivering high‐quality, low‐intensity cognitive‐behavioural therapy (CBT) interventions to clients with mild to moderate anxiety and depression, aligning with Step 2 IAPT guidelines.

  • Conduct person‐centred assessments, manage referrals, and support individuals in their self‐management and recovery journeys.
  • Deliver guided self‐help in both one‐to‐one and group settings, drawing from CBT principles.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, attending meetings and contributing to step‐up and step‐down arrangements.
  • Ensure accurate data entry and maintain high standards in clinical record‐keeping and confidentiality.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, colleagues and stakeholders, upholding Rethink Mental Illness values.

Responsibility & Duties

  • Accept referrals via agreed protocols, making decisions on suitability and when to refer unsuitable clients or step‐up treatment.
  • Assess and support people with mental health problems in self‐management of their recovery.
  • Provide assessment and low‐intensity interventions such as psycho‐educational interventions and guided self‐help, drawing from CBT theories and techniques.
  • Attend multidisciplinary meetings and support step‐up/step‐down arrangements to maintain a stepped‐care approach.
  • Ensure client confidentiality and accurate entry of clinical data, maintaining high standards of record‐keeping.
  • Record and evaluate outcome measures as part of the ongoing therapy process.
  • Support the collation of monthly performance data for service management and maintain links with statutory and non‐statutory agencies for continuing care on release from prison.
  • Adhere to activity contract and deliver required client contacts per week to minimise waiting times.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, stakeholders, colleagues and relevant professionals in both verbal and written form.
  • Provide contingency cover to other prisons if required.

Qualifications

  • Completed the IAPT Low Intensity National Programme and hold a PWP accreditation (BPS or BACP).
  • Post‐qualification experience delivering the full range of evidence‐based IAPT low‐intensity interventions at Step 2.
  • Experience within a stepped‐care service with demonstrated recovery outcomes.
  • Knowledge of assessment procedures, screening, referral, record‐keeping and evidence‐based brief interventions.
  • Ability to develop therapeutic relationships and practice non‐discriminatory care respectful of cultural practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and database systems.
  • Confidence in using clinical supervision, personal development and maintaining professional registration.
  • Experience working in a prison environment or with offenders (desirable).

Subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. Requires submission for Disclosure and Barring Service check to check for any previous criminal convictions.
