Hours of Work: 44.5 average per week, worked flexibly between 7.30am and 5pm Monday to Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch break and a minimum of 26 Saturday mornings per year from 8am to 12pm, generally worked on alternate weekends.
Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated Timber Yard Assistant to join our team at Harlow Bros. The role’s purpose is to be part of a team of operatives that work together to maintain a safe, clean, fully functional site, offer a knowledgeable, helpful, and professional service to our customers, and undertake various duties as the individual’s skill set develops and as directed by the Management Team. You will be fully customer facing. The role is based in Branch and is externally yard and warehouse based. You will be asked to undertake a variety of tasks including issuing goods to customers, picking orders, cutting and machining timber. As you progress, you will be trained and developed in the use of our range of specialist machines and the processes they can apply.
What you’ll be doing as a Timber Yard Assistant:
- Provide a prompt, polite, helpful and professional service to customers in branch and at delivery destinations, always promoting a positive company image.
- Greeting and serving customers on the yard and from the trade counter.
- Identifying, picking, processing, and issuing goods accurately and to deadlines, working from written pick notes and job sheets.
- Manual rack filling with timber and sheet materials.
- Housekeeping of warehouses and yard.
- Pick Up truck deliveries to local area.
Your Skills:
- Full UK Driving License desirable but not essential.
- Ability to identify and locate products quickly and accurately.
- Ability to provide a courteous and professional approach to customers.
- Ability to self‑motivate, organise, and execute tasks.
- Ability to work safely and cleanly.
- Forklift Licence desirable but not essential.
