Graduate Mechanical Engineer

Location: Glasgow || Contract:Permanent || Salary:Competitive

Purpose

As a member of the department your responsibilities will include input to the delivery of the Mechanical & Mechanical Services Design on assigned projects. You shall also be responsible for maintaining and improving the quality and efficiency of the Mechanical & Mechanical Services design and post contract implementation offered by Harley Haddow.

The position demands excellent communication skills; you will be representing Harley Haddow through direct contact with clients and other design team members.

You will learn by assisting the engineers on projects and be mentored by senior members of the team. You will be allowed to attend University/other training courses with prior approval of the Departmental Director in order to progress your learning and career goals. Where you have chosen to undertake First Aid training and are appointed as a First Aider in the company you have a responsibility to keep your training up to date and carry out monthly checks on first aid supplies.

Roles and Responsibilities

Key Areas of Focus

Continue to apply office procedures and basic engineering principles

  • General administrative duties
  • Continue with basic key and advanced design elements and specialist systems and apply this knowledge to different building scenarios

Develop Concept Designs as part of the RIBA Stage 2 & 3 Design Process

  • Prepare scheme design drawings (from concept right through to detailed design).
  • Take guidance from more senior engineers and implement the strategies identified
  • Where appropriate input to the Stage 2 and 3 MEP Reports
  • Understand and work within the commercial framework for projects.

Detailed Design as part of RIBA Stage 4 production.

  • Develop Mechanical Services detail design.
  • Oversee design work carried out by junior engineering staff.
  • Ensure that Mechanical Services Detailed output meets quality requirements.
  • Understand deadlines and Client’s brief.

Software

Proficient in the use of all necessary design software not limited to those identified below:

  • CAD
  • Revit
  • Bluebeam
  • Hevacomp
  • IES
  • Manual Calculations
  • Chorus
  • Word/Excel

Post Contract Implementationin line with RIBA Stage5, 6 & 7

  • Represent Harley Haddow at site meetings.
  • Monitor Mechanical Installation works against Mechanical Services Design.
  • Ensure project closure and conclusion of all defects.
  • Review all test certification and witness onsite test match certification

Primary Responsibilities

  • Willing to adapt and gain vital experience to develop your engineering and design skills
  • To develop designs and ensure delivery dates are met
  • To assist more senior engineers in achieving quality design outputs
  • To provide guidance to Assistant and Apprentice Engineer
  • To assist in developing Mechanical Services Scheme Design proposals
  • To assist in the delivery of Mechanical Services detailed design information.
  • To adhere to company quality, environment and H&S accredited standards as required for your role
  • Follow the training you have received when using any work items your employer has given you
  • Take reasonable care of your own and other people’s health and safety
  • Co-operate with your employer on health and safety
  • Tell someone (your employer, supervisor or health and safety representative) if you think the work or inadequate precautions are putting anyone’s health and safety at serious risk.

QA procedures

  • Ensure QA procedures are followed and documented
  • Ensure all work of your work is QA checked by a minimum of Principal Engineer prior to any documentation issue

Role Requirements

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified and working towards chartered status.

Knowledge & Expertise

  • Workplace experience through degree course.
  • Capable of working with own initiative to provide solutions to engineering and management challenges
  • Hold a valid UK Driving Licence(preferable)
  • Be prepared to travel to meetings and projects as necessary.
