About the Role
Harkaye Core Talent is working with a leading UK law firm to recruit a Solicitor to join its specialist Abuse Department. This role is dedicated exclusively to abuse litigation, representing claimants who have suffered physical, sexual and/or emotional abuse, as well as claims against care providers and institutions for failure to protect, failure to care and negligence. The successful candidate will take over an existing caseload of sensitive and complex matters and will work within an experienced, supportive team. The role offers hybrid working, with remote flexibility and regular attendance at the Manchester office.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of pre-litigated and litigated abuse claims, including multi-track matters
- Act on behalf of claimants in cases involving historic and non-recent abuse
- Handle claims against individual abusers and vicariously liable institutions
- Manage claims involving the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA)
- Address complex legal issues including Limitation, Causation and Quantum
- Conduct all matters in accordance with the Civil Procedure Rules and relevant protocols
- Maintain accurate file management, diaries and case progression in line with firm procedures
- Ensure compliance with Legal Aid requirements, Lexcel standards and internal policies
- Deliver the highest standards of client care, recognising the sensitive nature of abuse work
- Supervise and support an assistant where appropriate
- Participate in regular case reviews and performance reviews
- Contribute to the development, reputation and growth of the Abuse Department
About You
- Qualified Solicitor with up to 6 years PQE
- Demonstrable experience in abuse litigation or closely related claimant work
- Litigation experience is essential
- Experience of Legal Aid–funded abuse claims is advantageous
- Strong technical understanding of abuse-related claims and procedures
- Highly empathetic, emotionally intelligent and client-focused
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
- Confident managing sensitive and complex cases independently while working within a team
