HarKaye Core Talent is working exclusively with a highly regarded national law firm seeking a Public Law Solicitor to join its established Claims Against Public Authorities team. This is an excellent opportunity to undertake meaningful and complex work, representing individuals who have experienced unlawful treatment, discrimination or a breach of their rights by the police, government departments, local authorities and other public bodies.

THE ROLE

You will manage your own varied caseload of Claims Against Public Authorities matters, with support from experienced colleagues where required. Your caseload may include:

  • Unlawful arrest and false imprisonment
  • Assault and misconduct by public officials
  • Police misconduct and discrimination claims
  • Human rights breaches
  • Misfeasance in public office
  • Malicious prosecution
  • Data protection and privacy claims
  • Inquests and related civil proceedings
  • Judicial review and wider public law challenges

You will be responsible for advising clients throughout the lifetime of their claims, assessing prospects and funding options, preparing legal documentation, conducting negotiations and progressing matters through litigation where necessary.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

The firm is interested in speaking with qualified solicitors who have experience in Claims Against Public Authorities, public law, civil liberties, human rights or another closely related area. You should be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience managing or assisting with a relevant caseload
  • Strong knowledge of civil litigation and public law principles
  • An understanding of the Human Rights Act and Equality Act
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to provide clear and empathetic advice to vulnerable clients
  • Strong organisation and attention to detail
  • A genuine commitment to access to justice and protecting individual rights
