About the role

Join our dedicated team at the Coroner’s Court as a casual Relief Usher, where you will play an essential role in ensuring the smooth operation of inquests and Pre-Inquest Review Hearings (PIRH). In this position, you will be responsible for preparing courtrooms, assisting with the setup of hearings, and ensuring everything is in place for proceedings to run efficiently. You will welcome and support attendees, carry out ushering and jury bailiff duties, and help manage recording equipment and virtual meeting software to facilitate hearings. This is a casual role, available on an as-needed basis, offering flexibility while contributing to the important work of the Coroner’s Court.

About the team

Our team provides a respectful, efficient, and professional service to all those involved in the inquest process. We recognise the importance of handling sensitive situations with empathy and care, particularly when supporting bereaved families. We collaborate to ensure proceedings are well-organised and run smoothly, prioritising attention to detail while remaining adaptable to changing circumstances. Our commitment to maintaining a high-quality service allows us to uphold the integrity of the inquest process and provide support when it is needed most.

About you

You are a confident and articulate public speaker who can engage effectively with a range of audiences. Your ability to manage workloads and balance conflicting priorities enables you to stay organised and focused, even in demanding situations. You have strong IT skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and case management software, and you excel at troubleshooting technical issues efficiently. Working in high-pressure environments comes naturally to you, and you handle conflict with professionalism and discretion. Security and confidentiality are fundamental to your approach, and you are committed to delivering exceptional customer care. Your flexibility in adapting to different work schedules and locations, along with your excellent communication and teamwork skills, makes you a valuable asset in this role.
