About the Role
This role will support the delivery of a range of policy, strategy, and equalities projects that contribute to the Council’s corporate priorities. You will work across services to help ensure projects are delivered effectively, on time, and within scope, including those involving resident engagement and public participation. You will contribute to the development of policy and strategy to address key social, economic, and environmental challenges in Haringey, using data, research, and evidence to inform decision‑making. You will assist with reviewing Cabinet and committee reports, support the completion of Equality Impact Assessments (EqIAs) and help ensure equalities considerations are embedded across council activity. You will also use data and insight to inform policy design and evaluate outcomes, while supporting the development of effective and consistent policy‑making approaches across the organisation. The role requires close collaboration with colleagues, senior stakeholders and external partners, as well as producing clear and high‑quality written outputs such as briefings, reports, and policy papers.
About the Team
The Policy and Strategy team plays a central role in supporting the delivery of the Council’s corporate priorities. The team leads on policy development, equalities, and public participation, working closely with services and senior leaders across the organisation. We provide advice and support on Equality Impact Assessments and ensure that equalities considerations are reflected in decision‑making. The team also promotes and embeds public participation, offering guidance and support to services on consultation and engagement activity. This is a collaborative, high‑profile team that works across the Council to drive improvement and ensure the organisation delivers for all residents.
About You
We’re looking for a proactive and analytical individual who is passionate about shaping policy and delivering positive outcomes for communities. You’ll be confident working in a fast‑paced, politically led environment, with the ability to use evidence, collaboration, and strong communication skills to support effective decision‑making.
- Experience in policy and strategy development, ideally within the public sector or a complex organisation
- Understanding of the Public Sector Equality Duty and experience supporting Equality Impact Assessments
- Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to use data to inform decision‑making
- Ability to manage competing priorities and contribute to multiple projects effectively
- Experience of (or interest in) project management and delivery
- Knowledge of, or interest in, public participation and resident engagement approaches
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive issues with tact and professionalism
- Experience working with a range of stakeholders, including senior managers and, ideally, elected members
- Good understanding of local government issues and policy environments
