About the role:
As a Senior Legal Assistant within the Litigation (Disrepair) team, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of high‑quality legal services across the Council. You will manage a varied caseload of housing disrepair matters, handling tasks such as preparing cases, advising on evidence, responding to pre‑action protocols, negotiating settlements and attending court where required. Working closely with experienced lawyers, you will provide practical legal support and advice to internal clients while ensuring cases are progressed efficiently and within strict deadlines. This role offers excellent exposure to complex litigation work and the opportunity to build strong technical expertise within a supportive legal environment.
About the team:
You will join a professional and collaborative Legal Services team that sits at the heart of the Council, supporting a wide range of services and priorities. The Litigation team deals with diverse and often high‑profile matters, working closely with council departments, external counsel and the courts to achieve effective outcomes. The team promotes a culture of continuous improvement, knowledge sharing and development, providing a supportive environment where you will be encouraged to grow your skills and contribute to service improvement.
About you:
You will have experience working in a legal environment and be confident managing your own caseload or supporting litigation processes. You are highly organised, detail‑focused and able to work under pressure while meeting tight deadlines. A strong communicator, you can build effective relationships with colleagues, clients and external stakeholders, explaining complex matters clearly and professionally. You will also be proactive and adaptable, with a keen interest in developing your legal career. Experience or an interest in housing or local authority law would be beneficial, but above all, you will bring a commitment to delivering high‑quality legal support and making a meaningful contribution to public service.
