About the Role The Health and Safety Adviser (People) role at Haringey Council is a critical fixed term position (covering maternity leave) responsible for providing competent and professional health and safety advice and support to Council services to ensure continuous improvement in performance. You will be empowered to support the Senior Health and Safety Adviser (People) by supporting the development, implementation, promotion, review and monitoring the Councils Health and Safety Management Systems and associated policies and procedures. As an integral part of the team, you will have the chance to work closely with professionals from diverse departments, gaining invaluable exposure to the inner workings of a dynamic and impactful organization. Your efforts will directly contribute to the seamless functioning of our operations, ultimately enabling us to better serve the community. This role provides a platform for personal growth and development, as you’ll have the opportunity to refine your people management skills and expand your professional horizons in a supportive and collaborative environment. About the Team The Corporate Health and Safety team is a dynamic group of individuals with a wealth of knowledge and experience, and we are dedicated to supporting and empowering our colleagues across the organisation to consider the health and safety of themselves and everyone around them in all that they do. We emphasise teamwork, attention to detail, and effective communication. Together, we play a vital role in supporting the council’s operations and achieving its goals. With a shared commitment to excellence, we proactively provide health and safety specialist guidance and support to council staff. We take pride in our ability to adapt to evolving challenges and find innovative solutions, making us an indispensable asset to the organisation. About You We are looking for a proactive health and safety professional to support council services across various locations, including offices, libraries, shelters, and residential care settings. The ideal candidate will hold a NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) and GradIOSH membership, with experience advising on health and safety in the public sector or large multi-site organisations. They should demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and a practical approach to occupational health and safety legislation, accident prevention, and compliance. Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office. The role requires the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining discretion in handling sensitive information, ensuring the smooth and secure operation of health and safety processes.
