About the Role
We are looking for a person who is calm, consistent and approachable – especially under pressure; who can lead by example with high-quality practice; showing strong emotional intelligence when supporting staff and families; and be reliable and solution focused. You will need a deep understanding of the EYFS and child development and an ability to model outstanding interactions with children, support staff to improve through coaching, keep a strong focus on children’s wellbeing and learning outcomes. As a Deputy Manager, you will need to provide consistent leadership and clear directions for the team ensuring everyone understands expectations and feels supported in their role. Maintain high standards of practice at all times, leading by example and promoting quality across all areas of provision. Acting as a trusted link between staff and management, communicate effectively fostering a culture of openness and respect, taking ownership and accountability of your responsibilities whilst supporting a positive, solution focused culture that encourages teamwork, resilience, and continuous improvement. Additionally, you will need to confidently support the nursery manager in the day to day running of the nursery – to be highly organised, dependable, and proactive with a clear understanding of how the nursery operates daily. You will also be required to lead in the role of SENCO, supporting the individual needs of children and building strong relationships with parents and families. About You
You’ll be an experienced early years professional who brings strong leadership, a deep understanding of child development and a commitment to high-quality, inclusive practice. You’ll thrive in a busy, year-round nursery environment, supporting staff, children and families while upholding the highest standards of safeguarding, SEND support, and EYFS delivery. You will bring:
- A minimum Level 3 qualification in Children’s Care, Learning and Development (or equivalent)
- Ideally, a further qualification in childcare, early years education or management.
- Proven leadership experience within an early years or childcare setting, including supervising staff and contributing to performance management.
- Confident understanding of health and safety requirements, including completing and reviewing risk assessments and following organisational policies and procedures.
- Strong experience working directly with young children as a key person, with excellent knowledge of child development, the EYFS, individual learning styles and effective partnership working with families.
- The ability to act as an inspirational role model, demonstrating high-quality practice and supporting colleagues and students through modelling, coaching and mentoring.
- A collaborative, reflective approach to teamwork, with the ability to pause, support and enhance practice both in the moment and through planned staff discussions.
- Experience leading on curriculum planning, bringing creativity and vision to provocations, activities and learning opportunities.
- Experience supporting children with SEND, including contributing to Early Years Support Plans and working confidently with multi-agency partners.
- Excellent IT skills, including using digital systems for record-keeping, monitoring and reporting.
