Overview
The NCL Clinical Pharmacy Ambassador role supports workforce development, planning and education of primary care pharmacy professions across the five boroughs in North Central London (Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey and Islington). The role operates from the training hub perspective, directing pharmacists within primary and secondary care settings while ensuring alignment with the NCL ICB Medicines Management Team deliverables.
Responsibilities
- Work with the NCL Training Hub, Programme Director and borough Training Hub Programme Managers to develop and deliver projects that support the integration of pharmacy professionals into the primary care workforce.
- Provide education, training and business‑based advice to employers, supporting integrated pharmacy roles across primary and secondary care, urgent, acute, and emergency settings, and integrated neighbourhoods.
- Oversee and professionally support GP supervisors of clinical pharmacists, ensuring clarity, consistency and good supervisory practice; contribute to supervisor and faculty development activity (e.g. RPS Faculty programmes).
- Lead workforce planning activity for primary care pharmacy professionals, capturing workforce data, advising on supply and sustainability, and contributing to system workforce strategies.
- Develop, coordinate and support borough and NCL‑wide pharmacy forums, non‑medical prescribing forums and professional networks, working with ICB Medicines Management and IPMO teams to facilitate continuing professional development.
- Promote pharmacist participation in Multi‑Professional Educator Groups (MPEGs) at borough and NCL sessions, directing pharmacy roles and supervisors to resources that support effective supervision and multidisciplinary collaboration on the Faculty and Quality webpages.
- Attend the Train‑the‑Trainer working group to provide input and feedback on educational content and activities led by NCL Training Hub Faculty Programme Directors.
- Share learning content and topics from the NCL Faculty and Quality programme, adapting them to pharmacy‑specific forums, training and activities.
- Participate as a panel member in new educator and environment assessment at least once per year.
- Collaborate with the Education Faculty and Quality Team, Programme Management Office (PMO) and postholder’s line manager to deliver responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Vocational Masters Degree in Pharmacy or BPharm.
- Professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Completion of the CPPE Primary Care Pharmacy Education pathway or NHS England Clinical Pharmacist in General Practice education pathway.
- Independent prescriber (or advanced practice pharmacist or equivalent experience).
- Royal Pharmaceutical Society Faculty member (desirable).
- Postgraduate clinical pharmacy qualification or equivalent (desirable).
Experience
- Significant post‑qualification relevant experience as a Clinical Pharmacist in General Practice and/or Secondary Care.
- Experience managing patients with long‑term conditions.
- Knowledge of the NHS.
- In‑depth knowledge of the Additional Roles and Reimbursement Scheme (ARRS) and the primary care workforce.
- Understanding of current issues and challenges facing primary care.
- Recent experience working in a UK General Practice environment.
- Proven track record of successful local projects or initiatives (desirable).
- Previous education or leadership experience (desirable).
- Experience chairing meetings and report writing (desirable).
