Higher Level Teaching Assistant
Two Year Fixed Term
Scale 4 – 32 hours per week, 39 weeks per year
Prince of Wales School is a wonderful 2/3-form entry school, with spacious facilities, supportive staff and children eager to learn. We are within easy reach of Central London and serve a rich, multi-ethnic community. We are proud of the ethos and values shared by the staff, children, parents and Governors. We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate to work as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA).
Why join us
- Work in a spacious school with supportive colleagues, committed governors and eager pupils.
- Make a direct impact on inclusion, targeted intervention and pupil progress across the school.
- Opportunity to work alongside teachers, SENCO and leaders to develop classroom practice and contribute to whole school priorities (reading fluency, oracy, and reducing barriers to enrichment for disadvantaged pupils).
Key responsibilities
- Plan and deliver high quality small group and whole class teaching under the direction of class teachers and senior leaders, including cover for short term teacher absence where required.
- Deliver targeted interventions (literacy, maths, speech and language, social communication and behaviour support) and record/monitor impact.
- Lead learning across the class under teacher direction: prepare resources, adapt tasks and provide clear modelling so pupils make progress.
- Support pupils with EAL and SEND to access the curriculum through careful scaffolding, differentiation and promotion of independence.
- Contribute to maintaining records (intervention logs, behaviour/attendance notes), liaise with families when appropriate and attend relevant meetings.
- Support pupils’ personal development: promote school values, routines and positive behaviour.
- Participate in staff CPD, share effective practice and support colleagues in developing inclusive classroom approaches.
What we offer
- Supportive leadership and a collaborative staff culture.
- CPD linked to our SDP (inclusion, reading fluency, oracy and curriculum development).
- A chance to make a measurable difference for pupils who are disadvantaged, have SEND or are new to English.
All applications must be literate and numerate to GCSE level (Grade C or above) or equivalent in English and Maths. The role would suit a graduate looking to gain experience before embarking on a teaching career.
Closing Date: 10am on Friday 18th September 2026
Interviews: Week commencing 28th September 2026
If you have not heard from the school by the interview date, please assume that your application has been unsuccessful.
Visits to the school are warmly welcomed by appointment.
