About The Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Pensions Officer to join our Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) team. This key role is responsible for delivering a high-quality pension administration service to scheme members, employers, and stakeholders, ensuring full compliance with LGPS regulations and internal governance standards. As a Senior Pensions Officer, you will take ownership of complex casework across the full pension lifecycle, including retirements, transfers, deaths, and benefit calculations. You will act as a technical specialist within the team, providing guidance on LGPS legislation, interpreting scheme regulations, and supporting the accurate and timely delivery of pension benefits. The role also involves supervising and mentoring junior administrators, supporting workflow management and contributing to continuous service improvement initiatives. You will play an active part in driving operational excellence, identifying process efficiencies and maintaining high standards of data quality and customer service. Working closely with employers and internal teams, you will help resolve queries and support regulatory reporting requirements.

About You

You are an experienced LGPS professional with strong technical knowledge and a proactive, customer‑focused approach. You are confident handling complex pension queries and calculations, and you enjoy working collaboratively to deliver high‑quality outcomes.

Key Skills And Experience

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience working within the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)
  • Strong knowledge of LGPS regulations, pensions legislation, and current industry developments
  • Proven ability to interpret and apply complex regulations and guidance accurately
  • Excellent mathematical and analytical skills, with experience completing and checking complex benefit calculations
  • Experience dealing with a wide range of pension casework, including retirements, transfers, and death cases
  • Strong working knowledge of the Altair pensions administration system, including reporting tools (e.g. Insights/ReportWriter)
  • Experience maintaining pension data and supporting system processes, including reporting and data integrity
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with employers, stakeholders, and internal teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex information clearly
  • Experience supporting or mentoring junior staff and contributing to team development
  • Good IT skills and experience using systems to enhance service delivery
