About Haringey
Haringey is a fantastic place to live and work – the world in one borough. Our history champions change‑makers and everyday rebels; revelling in our differences, battling discrimination, championing equality, and doing things our own way. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community‑focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.
About The Role
The London Borough of Haringey, a values‑driven local authority, has recently taken direct management of its leisure centres. To support our vision of community wellbeing, we are recruiting lifeguards to join our new leisure team. We offer both full‑time and part‑time roles with flexible working hours, making this an ideal opportunity to contribute to our Active Wellbeing brand. Our mission is to encourage people to lead more active lifestyles, with a particular focus on engaging those who may be less active. As a member of our team, you’ll play a key role in promoting this goal by helping customers try new activities and guiding them in using our facilities. In this role as a lifeguard, you’ll be responsible for ensuring the safety of our patrons across a variety of leisure facilities. Monthly training will keep your skills sharp and your fitness level high, allowing you to perform efficiently. You’ll also assist in maintaining the cleanliness of changing rooms, showers, health suites, and other areas, contributing to a high‑quality environment. Additionally, your duties will involve setting up equipment in spaces such as sports halls, studios, and play areas, as well as preparing venues for social events and reporting any maintenance issues to help keep our facilities running smoothly.
About The Team
As a member of the leisure team, you’ll play a key role in increasing activity levels within Haringey’s diverse community. Working on a rota that covers all leisure centre opening hours, including evenings and weekends, you’ll be supported by an on‑site management team dedicated to your success. Together, the team will develop new programmes and facilities, collaborating with local stakeholders such as sports clubs, community groups, governing bodies, and professional organisations. This collaborative approach aims to achieve nationally recognised leisure industry awards for exceptional service quality, reinforcing our commitment to excellence in community health and wellbeing.
About You
We are looking for motivated individuals eager to build a career in the leisure industry. To be considered for this role, candidates must hold a valid RLSS Lifeguard qualification. The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of all guidelines related to maintaining a safe and clean leisure centre environment, and will be confident in handling customer interactions with professionalism and care. This is a fantastic opportunity for those with a keen interest in physical activity and public safety. We also offer part‑time contracts, ideal for individuals balancing other commitments such as education. If you’re hard‑working, committed to delivering high‑quality service, inclusive in your approach, and thrive in a team environment, we’d love to welcome you to our team.
