About Haringey

Haringey is a fantastic place to live and work – the world in one borough. A place brimming with creativity, personality, radicalism, and community. It is a place where we stand up for each other. A place that is proudly distinctive. We’ll be celebrating all this and more as the "rebel borough" when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture. Our history champions change‑makers and everyday rebels; revelling in our differences, battling discrimination, championing equality, and doing things our own way. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community‑focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.

About The Role

We are seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented Revenues Valuation & Inspection Officer to join our Revenues Service. In this role, you will carry out inspections of both domestic and commercial properties across the borough, ensuring accurate liability for Council Tax and Business Rates. You will play a key role in maintaining valuation lists by investigating property changes, supporting revenue growth, and ensuring the correct application of exemptions, discounts, and reliefs. The role will also involve engaging directly with residents and businesses, conducting site visits, and supporting enforcement activity where required.

About The Team

You will be part of a dynamic Revenues team within the Environment and Resident Experience directorate, working closely with colleagues across billing, enforcement, and customer services. The team is responsible for delivering an efficient and customer‑focused revenue service, ensuring the council’s tax base is accurate and up to date. Collaboration is key, as you will liaise with internal departments and external partners such as the Valuation Office Agency, landlords, and support organisations to deliver a high‑quality and compliant service.

About You

We are looking for a highly organised and analytical individual with a strong commitment to delivering a customer‑focused service. You will have practical working knowledge of Council Tax or Business Rates legislation, alongside experience working within a local government Revenues environment. You will demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex decisions clearly and produce structured reports. Strong numerical and analytical skills are essential, as well as the ability to assess data, identify discrepancies, and apply legislation accurately. You will be confident working both independently and as part of a team, able to manage a high‑volume workload in a pressurised environment, and handle sensitive customer situations with professionalism and discretion. Experience working with electronic document management systems and handling confidential information is essential, alongside a flexible and methodical approach to problem‑solving and service delivery.

Working for Haringey

At Haringey Council we are committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included, and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits of a diverse workforce so welcome applications from all ethnicities and communities so that we continue to make a difference to our residents and community. Our benefits package includes a leave entitlement of 31 days + bank holidays, potential hybrid working opportunities, health and wellbeing support, a generous local government pension scheme and a range of discount schemes across leisure and culture that provide both financial and money‑saving discounts.
