Blanche Nevile School for Deaf Children, North London is urgently looking for a Primary Teacher of Deaf Children and Young People to cover a maternity leave. This is a full‑time, fixed‑term position (initially two terms, with the possibility of a third). Working hours and pay are as per the local pay scale with Inner London Allowance and one SEN point.
Role and Responsibilities
- Deliver quality inclusion and small‑class specialist teaching for deaf pupils aged 3‑16.
- Plan and teach in a child‑centred, sign‑bilingual environment.
- Support pupils’ academic and social progress, ensuring inclusive education for all deaf pupils.
- Collaborate with deaf and hearing staff, and also work in partnership with a mainstream team.
- Prepare pupils for the School’s weekly BSL course and their British Sign Language development.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience teaching in Primary (KS1 or KS2).
- Commitment to effective inclusive education for deaf pupils.
- High expectations, excellent lesson planning and adaptive skills.
- Knowledge of British Sign Language or a commitment to reach at least Level 3.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Flexibility and willingness to work in partnership with a mainstream team.
- A Teacher of Deaf Children and Young People qualification is desirable but not essential.
