About The Role

Haringey Council’s Green group and the Council’s minority group administration is seeking a Political Assistant to support 28 group councillors, including the Group Leader and Deputy Leaders. We are seeking a good communicator with strong interpersonal skills and an ability to manage a range of priorities. The successful candidate will provide support to a large group of councillors across a range of topics, from policy briefings, administrative support to external communications and forward planning.

About You

  • The ability to communicate effectively across all platforms, including orally, through online platforms and in writing with a wide range of people including councillors, citizens, senior officer colleagues, partners and MPs.
  • An interest in and commitment to the political agenda of the local authority’s Green group.
  • An understanding of the challenges facing local government and a commitment to supporting councillors to get the best for local people.

Other Requirements

This post is mainly based in Wood Green, and will entail regular attendance at evening meetings, for which time off is given or overtime payable. Assistants must work within the procedures contained in the Council’s Constitution and Officer Code of Conduct. The posts are subject to the limitations set by the Local Government and Housing Act 1989 and Local authority Guidance Political assistance Guidance dated 11th October 2021.
