These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.
About the role
As an Employment Support Officer within Haringey Works, you will help council tenants and residents move closer to employment by providing tailored, practical support that reflects their individual circumstances, strengths and ambitions. Working closely with Housing colleagues, you will build trusted relationships with residents, delivering support through one-to-one appointments, employability workshops and outreach activities on housing estates and in community settings. You will engage with residents who may not currently access employment services, helping them overcome barriers, identify opportunities and take positive steps towards work. From developing action plans and addressing skills gaps to supporting job applications and interview preparation, you will play a key role in helping residents achieve sustainable employment. You will also provide ongoing support as residents move into work, helping them manage the transition and maintain long-term success. Alongside this, you will maintain accurate records and evidence of outcomes, ensuring residents receive a high-quality and effective service.
About the team
Haringey Works is Haringey Council’s employment support service, dedicated to helping residents build skills, access opportunities and secure sustainable employment. Our team includes employment advisers, employer engagement officers and specialist staff who work collaboratively with local employers, training providers and community organisations to create opportunities for local people. We are a supportive and knowledgeable team that takes a person-centred approach to employment support. We understand that every resident’s journey is different and that some may face multiple challenges before they are ready to enter the workplace. By working closely together and sharing expertise, we help residents make lasting progress and improve their long-term financial wellbeing. Through our partnership with Housing Services, we bring employment support directly into local communities, making it easier for residents to access the help they need.
About you
You will be passionate about supporting people to achieve their goals and have experience working with individuals facing complex barriers or challenging circumstances. You will be skilled at building trust, motivating people through setbacks and helping them turn long-term ambitions into realistic and achievable plans. You will be confident delivering one-to-one support, facilitating workshops and engaging with residents in a variety of community settings. A good understanding of recruitment practices, employability support and the barriers people can face when seeking work is essential, along with an awareness of how changes in income and welfare benefits can affect an individual’s journey into employment. Strong communication and partnership-working skills are key to success in this role, as is a commitment to equality, inclusion and safeguarding.
