It is a place where we stand up for each other. A place that is proudly distinctive. We’ll be celebrating all this and more as the "rebel borough" when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture. Our history champions change‑makers and everyday rebels; reveling in our differences, battling discrimination, championing equality, and doing things our own way. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community‑focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.

About The Role: This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced housing professional to lead a frontline Housing Needs team delivering high‑quality homelessness prevention and assessment services. As a Team Manager, you will be responsible for one of five teams, ensuring the delivery of legally compliant statutory assessments under the Housing Act 1996, while driving a strong prevention‑focused, customer‑first approach. You will play a key role in shaping and improving the service – managing complex cases, responding to legislative and policy changes and embedding innovative ways of working. Working closely with internal teams and external partners, you will maximise positive outcomes for residents and lead on enforcement responsibilities linked to the Renters’ Rights Act, ensuring both tenants’ rights are protected and landlords meet their obligations.

About The Team: The Housing Needs service sits within Housing Demand and delivers homelessness prevention, assessment and housing advice to residents across the borough. The service is made up of five teams, each led by a Team Manager and supported by a mix of Housing Needs Officers, senior practitioners and administrative staff, working together to deliver a high‑quality frontline service. We operate in a challenging but rewarding environment, supporting a diverse community and focusing on early intervention to prevent homelessness wherever possible. Working in close partnership with council services and external agencies, the team is committed to collaboration, continuous improvement and innovation to achieve the best possible outcomes for residents.

About You: You will bring significant experience of working within housing needs or homelessness services, along with a strong understanding of the legislative and policy framework. You will be a confident leader, able to inspire and manage a diverse team in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment, while maintaining a clear focus on delivering excellent outcomes for residents.

You Will Also Demonstrate:

  • Extensive knowledge of homelessness legislation, housing allocations, tenancy law and prevention duties
  • Proven experience managing teams and performance in a complex frontline service
  • Strong partnership working skills across public, private and voluntary sectors
  • Ability to manage complex cases, legal challenges and high‑risk decisions
  • Excellent communication, analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • A proactive, innovative approach to service improvement and change
