About The Role

We are looking for an exceptional Head of Residential Building Safety to lead the strategic direction and delivery of building safety across Haringey’s residential housing portfolio. As a key member of the senior leadership team, you will provide expert oversight of building safety compliance, develop and implement building safety strategies, and ensure residents are, and feel, safe in their homes. You will be responsible for driving a strong compliance culture, overseeing significant programmes of fire, asbestos and building safety works, managing substantial budgets, and providing assurance to senior leaders and stakeholders that our statutory obligations are being met.

About The Team

You’ll join Housing Services & Building Safety at an exciting time as we continue to strengthen our approach to resident safety and regulatory compliance. Leading a team of highly skilled professionals across fire safety, asbestos management, building safety, and project delivery, you will work collaboratively with colleagues, contractors, partners, and elected members to deliver safe, resilient, and customer-focused services. Together, the team is committed to fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and excellence, ensuring the highest standards of safety across Haringey’s homes.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring proven senior management experience delivering fire and building safety across a large and complex property portfolio, alongside extensive knowledge of building safety legislation, compliance requirements and regulatory obligations. You will have substantial experience of contract management, significant experience of planning and delivering compliance and building safety programmes, and strong financial and commercial acumen with responsibility for large capital and revenue budgets. You will also have a successful track record of collaborative leadership, a relevant professional qualification and membership of a professional body (or equivalent experience), and evidence of continuing professional development.

You will be an inspiring leader with the ability to coach, engage and motivate teams, excellent stakeholder engagement skills, and strong strategic and analytical thinking abilities. You’ll possess political awareness and experience operating within a political environment, alongside excellent risk management and decision-making skills. In addition, you’ll have outstanding influencing and negotiation skills and high-quality written, presentation and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to adapt your approach to a wide range of audiences. If you are passionate about resident safety, service excellence, and leading high-performing teams, we’d love to hear from you.
