The predicted salary is between 70000 - 90000 £ per year.

Lead the electrical and instrumentation discipline by providing supervision and technical direction to engineers and designers and owning total delivery of discipline deliverables and services. This role is accountable for on-time delivery, performance budget, and quality expectations, and may also serve as a technical specialist for complex engineering assignments. Work requires extensive progressive experience in electrical and instrumentation engineering and consistent use of project controls for cost, schedule, and quality under minimal supervision.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Planning and organizing the work of your team, communicating the plan to the team, the project leadership team, and the client.
  • Delegating work to engineers and designers in proportion to their technical skills and experience, and following up to ensure efficient progress and quality.
  • Consulting with design leaders from other disciplines to ensure efficient progress and quality.
  • Maintaining control of the project by tracking and maintaining discipline performance budget progress, schedule commitments, and quality standards.
  • Validating professional service and construction estimates at the beginning of a project and tracking changes as the project progresses.
  • Producing professional service estimates in accordance with department standards for project deliverables, studies and estimates, change notices, and the development of new work through proposal efforts.
  • Knowing your scope and deliverables; initiating timely change notices when deviations affect schedule, deliverables, or cost.
  • Establishing the design criteria, incorporating client requirements, estimate and/or scope basis, and design basis meeting applicable state, local, and federal standards and codes.
  • Producing estimate-level preliminary designs and material take-offs suitable for the level of estimate being performed.
  • Developing conceptual layouts and cost studies as necessary to determine the simplest, most efficient approach to solving engineering tasks.
  • Familiarity with and utilization of department design and drafting standards.
  • Producing detailed design calculations and sketches for materials of construction associated with the project, organized for efficient checking and use by drafters/designers.
  • Producing project designs emphasizing ease of construction while meeting client expectations.
  • Reviewing and approving all electrical deliverables.
  • Checking calculations made by other engineers to ensure accuracy, conformance to codes, specifications, design criteria, and good engineering practice.
  • Producing construction specifications.
  • Monitoring drawings in progress to ensure conformance to design calculations and specifications.
  • Assisting the drafting group in resolving routine layout and detailing problems, ensuring sufficient sketches and details for completion of engineering drawings.
  • Reviewing and checking vendor drawings and other discipline drawings for electrical/instrumentation input.
  • Producing bid packages enabling electrical/instrumentation purchase inquiries to be issued for procurement of materials or subcontract pricing.
  • Participating in the planning of training programs and continuous education opportunities for staff professional development.
  • Identifying and developing work sharing packages for interoffice execution support, providing leadership to ensure communication and execution within scope, schedule, and budget.

Ideal Background

  • Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Registration: Professional Engineering registration is highly preferred.
  • Experience: 15 or more years of relevant industrial experience in electrical and instrumentation engineering.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge and application of the current version of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Ability to perform lighting level calculations, size wire, conduit and overcurrent protection for lighting and power applications, and perform voltage drop calculations.
  • Ability to route conduit and cable tray, calculate tray and conduit fill, and determine motor control center loading.
  • Familiarity with specifications and installation details of construction bulk materials and equipment.
  • Ability to create accurate electrical installation documents from vendor equipment drawings.
  • Ability to determine load center unit substation loading and develop equipment specifications for motor control centers, variable frequency drives, induction and synchronous motors, and related equipment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of schedule constraints and information requirements for producing all electrical deliverables.
  • Ability to produce a 15 kV power system single line diagram and develop specifications for 15 kV/5 kV equipment such as switchgear and load break switches, including short-circuit and overcurrent protective device ratings.
  • Ability to develop electrical installation specifications, estimate completion of assigned tasks, and build construction cost estimates and detailed engineering schedules for small or large projects.
  • Ability to determine construction material quantities, develop design criteria and scope of work, and estimate professional service hours with progress and quality assessment.
  • Complete understanding of the skills and experience required to perform engineering and design functions.
  • Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software (AutoCAD, MicroStation or both).
  • Programming experience with PLC, HMI, and/or DCS equipment.
  • Ability to lead a small team to deliver on commitments and deliver convincing presentations of services.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Virtual team skills, relationships, and ability to provide interoffice execution leadership.
