An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Hargreaves Lansdown as a Senior Data Economist. In this new role, you will be providing analysis of economic and market data, as well as HL's proprietary client data sets, to support the shaping and articulation of Hargreaves Lansdown's investment philosophy. As part of the Investment Strategy team, this role supports HL's mission to empower investors, driving brand awareness, client acquisition, and retention while strengthening the business's competitive advantage through differentiated insight and service. The Investment Strategy team provides our clients with analysis on asset allocation, fund selection, equity research, ESG and personal finance.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide independent analysis to trigger and support thought leadership.
  • Design and manage models for publicly available economic data sets including inflation, money and credit data, interest rates and productivity.
  • Design, maintain and develop analysis processes for stock and bond market data from a variety of sources.
  • Identify data-related trends and propose data recommendations.
  • Provide expert advice and key recommendations on strategy aims and areas to improve.
  • Work with Heads of to provide recommendations and insight into data sets.
  • Collaborate across the Investment Strategy team and wider business to manage and improve HLAM investment processes and solutions.

Role Details:

Location: Bristol head office, BS1 5HL. This role is permanent, full time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. For this role we offer a hybrid flexible working pattern with an option to work from home and come into the office, with office expectations of 2 days per week.

Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of and interest in economics (micro, macro, econometrics) and financial markets.
  • Highly logical and numerate.
  • Proficiency in at least one data programming language and supporting technologies (e.g. Python, R, SQL).
  • Experience in statistical analysis and research methodology.
  • Skilled at critical thinking and problem-solving.
  • Experience in data modelling, analysis and visualisation.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience and interest in AI.
  • Experience in project and stakeholder management, drawing on stakeholder experience to deliver objectives.
