About the role
We are seeking two Senior Software Engineers to join our Technical Excellence Team, playing a key role in advancing Hargreaves Lansdown’s AI capability maturity across the organisation. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality, well-engineered software while helping to elevate coding standards across the wider team. Recognised as a technical expert by your peers, you will use your knowledge and experience to drive best practices, add value to your squad, and contribute to successful delivery outcomes.
You will champion a culture of continuous learning by sharing your expertise through mentoring, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing sessions. Whether embedded within a team or facilitating broader group discussions, you will demonstrate the benefits of different development and delivery approaches, helping others to improve their skills and adopt effective engineering practices.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will influence technical direction at squad level and play an active role in team-wide and cross-team initiatives, contributing to the ongoing evolution of engineering excellence across the business.
What you will be doing:
- Responsible for writing high quality code adhering to corporate & regulatory standards, delivered in a timely manner, without supervision.
- Ensuring the squad actively manages and remediates any vulnerabilities.
- Actively contribute to the overall output of the team (e.g. through knowledge sharing, mentoring, etc.).
- Can act as a low-level design authority - uses their deep knowledge of a system to drive good code-level design and assist Technical Leads in software design stages.
- Work collaboratively with the squad to help deliver new features for the product in line with requirements.
- Drives awareness of current secure coding practices and ensure code produced is in line with these within the squad.
- Review other software engineers' code, as well as agentic produced, to ensure conformance with established standards.
- Responsible for developing and evidencing automated tests alongside code produced.
- Responsible for documenting all solutions produced, using Confluence, to agreed team standards, socialising and cascading where appropriate.
- Habitually commit code to high standards.
- Ensure existing and newly developed solutions are reliable, secure, performant and maintainable.
- Cultivate strong working relationships both within the Digital department and wider within Hargreaves Lansdown.
- Actively participate in schemes designed to support the development squad.
- Demonstrate a willingness to learn and further technologies & techniques embraced by product team, engineering squads and focused around automation and agentic AI solutions.
- Develop both technical and interpersonal skills (equally weighted).
- Willingly participate in essential administrative tasks.
- Identify inefficiencies in our current software engineering processes and/or apps to establish where improvements can be made in order to improve productivity/efficiency.
- Accurately predict development timescales.
- Technically and personally support other squad members.
About you:
- Expert knowledge of one or more development languages, ideally Python, JavaScript.
- Prepared to develop and broaden role when required, particularly continuous learning in Agentic AI solutions.
- Good knowledge of investments products and a grasp of different business processes within the company.
- Excellent communication skills to relate effectively to people at all levels.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to identify and manage priorities.
- Excellent influencing skills with the ability to achieve consensus and facilitate the right technical outcomes.
- Able to demonstrate clear and concise documentation & planning.
- Can spot problems, generate and execute solutions to more complex problems, working with others where needed.
Working Schedule:
This role is based in Number One, Welcome Building, Bristol, BS2 0TR. This role is permanent, full time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. We have returned to the office 2 days a week.
