School Caretaker – Specialist SEND School

Salary: £25,000 – £30,000 per annum, depending on experience
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
We're looking for a practical, reliable School Caretaker to join a specialist SEND school in Braintree.
This is a hands-on role where you'll take pride in keeping the school safe, secure, well maintained and welcoming for the children and young people who use it every day.
What You'll Be Doing
- Carrying out general maintenance and minor repairs
- Opening, closing and securing the school
- Completing regular building, grounds and safety checks
- Basic plumbing, painting, decorating and handyperson tasks
- Maintaining outdoor areas, gardens and play spaces
- Supporting fire safety, health & safety and compliance checks
- Liaising with contractors and reporting larger repairs
- Keeping maintenance and safety records up to date
- Helping maintain a clean, calm and well-organised school environment
What We're Looking For
You'll ideally have:
- Previous caretaking, maintenance, facilities or handyperson experience
- Good general DIY and practical maintenance skills
- An understanding of health & safety and safe working practices
- The ability to work independently and spot problems before they become bigger ones
- A reliable, organised and proactive approach
- A calm and respectful manner around children and young people
Experience within a school, SEND, care or similar environment would be an advantage, but isn't essential.
