We are recruiting an experienced and inspirational Headteacher to lead a specialist SEND school in Braintree, Essex. This is an exciting opportunity for an established Headteacher, Head of School or experienced senior education leader to shape and develop a specialist provision supporting children and young people with SEND, including autism, ADHD and complex needs.
The Role
As Headteacher, you will have overall responsibility for the strategic leadership, educational direction and operational management of the school. Responsibilities will include:
- Leading the school's vision, strategy and improvement plan
- Developing and overseeing a high-quality, personalised SEND curriculum
- Ensuring EHCP outcomes are embedded into learning and pupil progress
- Providing strong leadership across safeguarding, behaviour and pupil wellbeing
- Maintaining high standards of teaching and learning
- Leading, developing and inspiring the staff team
- Ensuring the school meets SEND, safeguarding and regulatory requirements
- Working closely with families, Local Authorities and multi-agency professionals
- Representing the school with Ofsted and other external stakeholders
- Managing resources, compliance and continuous school improvement
Headteacher Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Proven senior leadership experience within SEND or specialist education
- Strong knowledge and understanding of SEND provision
- Experience supporting children and young people with autism, ADHD and complex needs
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and regulatory requirements
- Experience leading and developing education teams
- Ability to develop high-quality learning that supports academic, social and life skills
- Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills
Desirable:
- NPQH or equivalent SEND or leadership postgraduate qualification
- NASENCo qualification or SEND leadership experience
- Experience within independent, specialist or alternative provision
