The GLF Trust schools in Banbury are looking for committed individuals from the local community, and from all walks of life and backgrounds to join our Schools Standards Boards. We are looking for those who can share their viewpoints, experience, expertise, skills and fresh ideas to enhance the opportunities for our children and families within the community.

We have exciting and rewarding opportunities for you to join one of our School Standards Board (SSB). There are opportunities at four schools in Banbury: Cherry Fields Primary School, Hardwick Primary School, Longford Park Primary School and William Morris Primary School. The volunteer position of SSB member is for a four year period with the option to continue for a second term. As an SSB member, you will contribute to and monitor the school’s development plan, and contribute towards maintaining and raising the high standards at one of these four schools. All four GLF schools in Banbury are popular and have excellent reputations in the town.

The SSB is the Trust Board’s interface with key stakeholders: parents, staff and the community. SSB members provide regular feedback to the Trust Board on the performance of their school and the feedback from stakeholders (parents, staff and community), contributing to the overall improvement of the Trust. SSBs also have the opportunity to influence the strategy of the Trust as a whole. No experience of the education sector is needed; the SSBs value experience from outside the education sector. Excellent training is provided and is a requirement to be completed.

This important role requires commitment: there are six meetings per year (up to two hours each), and at least 3 visits to the school to see the school in action and to observe and question the leaders, staff and children.

We are looking for somebody who:

  • thinks strategically, and is able to contribute to the development of the schools priorities,
  • is able to listen, reflect and learn from a range of viewpoints,
  • is able to establish clear expectations for school leaders,
  • has the ability to analyse and interpret data and statistics,
  • has the confidence to ask questions and challenge school leaders in an appropriate way.

About GLF: GLF Schools is a dynamic and forward thinking Multi Academy Trust with many career opportunities for new and existing staff. Each school in our Trust has its own individual identity, while benefiting from the expertise that comes from dedicated and experienced regional and Trust teams. Our schools serve to meet the needs of their own local community, yet all are united in their core purpose of providing an outstanding educational experience. We comprise 43 schools over 5 regions and 7 LA's with 35 primaries and 8 secondaries. Each region has access to a regional team that supports our schools financially, operationally and with all HR/people matters.

Being a member of the SSB does require time commitment. SSBs meet formally once per half term (6 meetings across the academic year) and follow an annual work plan set out by the Trust. You are also required to attend training and undertake at least 3 school visits per year, to monitor the implementation of the development plan and strategic priorities of the school. Meetings and visits take place during the school day. While being a member of the SSB is a voluntary role, you will be able to claim for travel expenses if needed.
